Menopause is something that, if you are a female, you can't escape. It is a natural part of our life cycle. However as our reproductive hormones decline, it shouldn't be a nightmare of fatigue, hot flushes, crying and brain fog. We should be able to get through the change with minimal discomfort. True!
The challenge is that as women we have already been through so much and spent years juggling relationships, pregnancy and childbirth, financial challenges, divorce, teenagers, ............. that by the time we get to 50, we are exhausted, run down and burnt out. Our reserves are too low to get us through this difficult time, mentally, physically and emotionally. Add to this Empty Nest Syndrome (yes, that is actually a real syndrome, not just a saying) and going through our own acceptance of aging, we really do have a recipe for struggle and unhappiness. In fact studies have shown that women in their 40's and 50's are the most unhappy.
